The Higher Certificate in Communication Practices provides students with essential skills to identify, conceptualise, and address basic communication challenges in workplace settings. The qualification is intended to cultivate cognitive and conceptual tools, alongside practical techniques that are relevant to Communication Practices, the English language, and Education. Graduates will gain strong academic and professional writing skills, as well as presentation skills suited to scholarly and entry-level roles.  This will be accompanied by an appreciation for effective communication gained through competencies in gathering, processing, producing, and presenting information professionally.

DURATION

This qualification may be offered over one year for full-time contact and online students; for part-time students, it will be offered over two years online. 

MODE OF DELIVERY

Contact (Full-time): Contact lectures take place during the day, on weekdays, at the following campuses: Braamfontein, Bloemfontein, Cape Town, Durban, Mbombela, Nelson Mandela Bay, Polokwane, and Pretoria. The Online (Part-time) lecture schedule will be communicated to students by the Online team.

Accreditation

The Higher Certificate in Communication Practices is accredited by the Council on Higher Education (CHE) and is registered by the South African Qualifications Authority (SAQA) on the National Qualifications Framework (NQF) as a 120-credit qualification on Level 5 (SAQA ID No: 112899). DEVICE AND CONNECTIVITY SPECIFICATIONS REQUIRED FOR ONLINE STUDY:

  • Reliable internet connection (we recommend 5-10 GB of data per month and an internet speed of at least 0.15 Mbps)
  • Desktop PC or laptop with at least an i3 processor and 4GB RAM memory
  • Windows 8 or macOS 10.15 (Microsoft Office 365 is available as a free download for IIE students), and Google Chrome, Microsoft Edge Chromium or Firefox
  • A working webcam and microphone
  • An uninterrupted power supply is also highly recommended
