Higher Certificate in Local Governance

Overview

​The purpose of this qualification is to expose learners to the general principles within local government and the foundational knowledge for entry-level positions in this field. This qualification includes the following modules: introductory concepts in public administration, Local Government structures and administration, customer relationship management, ethics, local government finance and human resource management.

This qualification will provide opportunities for Graduates from Rosebank International wishing to enter the public sector, and existing public servants who wish to enhance their career prospects.

Course Outline

SKILLS YOU WILL DEVELOP 

On completion of this qualification, learners will have the practical and interpersonal skills that are essential to become competent employees in local government.  Learners will be exposed to the concepts, principles, and procedures that lead effective local government initiatives through this course. Newly qualified students will also begin their careers as public sector administrators before moving up the corporate ladder.

​The IIE Higher Certificate in Local Governance is accredited by the Council on Higher Education (CHE) and is registered by the South African Qualifications Authority (SAQA) on the National Qualifications Framework (NQF) as a 120-credit qualification on Level 5 (SAQA ID No: 126370). DEVICE AND CONNECTIVITY SPECIFICATIONS REQUIRED FOR ONLINE STUDY:

• Reliable internet connection (we recommend 5-10 GB of data per month and an internet speed of at least 0.15 Mbps)
• Desktop PC or laptop with at least an i3 processor and 4GB RAM memory
• Windows 8 or macOS 10.15 (Microsoft Office 365 is available as a free download for IIE students), and Google Chrome, Microsoft Edge Chromium or Firefox
• A working webcam and microphone
• An uninterrupted power supply is also highly recommended

Examination

Exams are written at an exam centre and, in some instances, online. These details will be specified in your programme assessment schedule.
