South32 is committed to the development of its host communities in areas it operates. Skills development is one of the focus areas in which we aim to contribute to enable our host communities to access employment opportunities or start their own businesses. Our bursary scheme is targeted at Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths (STEM) as well as NON-STEM. The bursaries are aimed at increasing the skills in the John Taolo Gaetsewe (JTG) District to be used beyond the mining sector and contribute to the diversification of the local economy. Successful candidates will be sponsored to study and obtain qualifications in the listed disciplines as indicated below.

The Dr. Xolani Mkwanazi Bursary Scheme is offering a limited number of tertiary bursaries for 2027 to deserving applicants who reside in the John Taolo Gaetsewe (JTG) district as well as HMM Employees children. APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS: Who can apply? If you are in Grade 12 or completed Grade 12 or busy with your first year of study and would like to study full time towards a degree/diploma, this bursary scheme is just what you are looking for. The typical disciplines suitable for this application include, but are not restricted to the following studies:

WHAT SHOULD APPLICANTS SUBMIT

HMM Bursary Application Form

  • Certified valid South African ID
  • Certified copy of the Matric certificate
  • If you are currently in grade 12, certified copy of Mid-year or Preliminary results.
  • Academic records/results (if applicable)
  • Registration or proof of application letter from the institution.
  • Proof of residence (copy of municipal proof of residence, or a letter from Ward Councilor or Chief) confirming that you are a resident of JTG District.

VALUE OF BURSARY:

  • Full payment of tuition fees
  • Payment of accommodation and meal allowance.
  • Book allowance

SELECTION CRITERIA

  • Mid-year or Preliminary results.
  • Previous year’s academic results.
  • In making the final selection, consideration will be given to attaining the objectives of the Mining Charter and Employment Equity Act.
